When new students sign up with Piqosity, they'll complete the PVT 2 tutorial. This is a series of pages that asks students a few questions about their test or subject prep circumstances so that Piqosity can tailor the virtual tutor to the student's specific goals. These questions are described in further detail below. Don't worry, you can change all of these selections later from the "Settings" tab on the PVT page.
1. Score goals
Telling PVT how high you are hoping to score determines the topics that will be included or excluded from your personalized course outline. A student shooting for top 1% on the ACT will need to be familiar with every topic—big or small—on the test, so Piqosity includes every item in the course outline for this score designation. Meanwhile, a student aiming for top 25% on the ACT should be familiar with most but not necessarily all of the topics on the test. Thus, Piqosity will selectively hide more advanced, lower yield topics.
For more details on how percentile ranks correspond to actual accuracies in the course, refer to the table below. For example: "Top 5%" on the ACT corresponds to about 85% accuracy or a composite score of 30.
2. Test or Course End Date
This date tells Piqosity when you need to finish reviewing all of the courses material by. It also shows on the PVT calendar to show you if you are ahead of schedule, on track, or behind.
For ACT, ISEE, or SAT courses, you'll also be asked if you are officially registered for the test. This has no bearing on your PIqosity experience, but if you select "No", then we will send you reminders as the test date approaches.
3. Study Days
Indicating the days you'll study tells the virtual tutor how to populate your calendar. If you indicate that you are studying on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays, then you'll see that the virtual tutor lays out all of the modules that you need to work on those specific days. This is simply a way to visualize your study plan; you can complete these modules on any days of the week.
4. Study Session Duration
The length of your study sessions is the last piece of information that the virtual tutor needs to lay your study plan out on the calendar. To determine how many modules you'll be able to work on each of your designated days, we carry out the simple approximation: (Length of Study Session)/(30 minutes per module) = # of modules per day.
Just like your study days, these module per day calculations are simply mean to help you visualize what your plan looks like on the calendar based on test date, study days, and study time.
5. Account Verification
All accounts on Piqosity must be verified to maintain access. If you do not verify your account, then you will eventually lose access to it.
If you do not receive the account verification email, then click "Skip for 24 hours" and message us here on the Help Desk. We'd be happy to help.
6. Account Upgrade
You don't need to pay for an account or provide your credit card information for a limited-time "free trial". We offer a completely free account that allows you to poke around, do some limited practice, and take a mini-diagnostic test. However, to work through PVT 2 and have access to all the practice that PVT 2 generates, you'll need a paid account.
Note: Only the "Advanced" plans for ACT, ISEE, and SAT offer cross-course remediation.
7. Optional Diagnostic Exam
If you'd like to jump right into working questions, you can take this short diagnostic exam to see where you're at with the course content. Alternatively, click "Later Pup", and you'll be taken to the course dashboard, where you can explore the platform.
